Having a baby in the NICU can be terrifying and one of the first challenges is understanding and using complicated medical terms. It can be daunting to try to learn all of the information and communicate with the healthcare teams. It can even be hard for families with experience to remember or apply everything when it is your own baby in the NICU. This is the target of the NEST by ICU baby program, to equip NICU families with trusted, family-focused information when and how they need it so they can feel more in control of their experience in the NICU.
The NEST by ICU baby has multimodal learning and access opportunities. NICU Parents will receive the My NICU Baby Book in print at their bedside. However, in our increasingly digital world where news and information are less and less read and more and more watched, we wanted to make the information easily accessible for everyone. Therefore ICU baby took to the film studio and created the ICU baby NEST Video Series.
In the NEST Video series, NICU parents will be able to watch the NICU information come to life through the stories of NICU parents who are navigating the same 12 topics discussed in the My NICU Baby Book. And just like the My NICU Baby Book, the full video series is available in the family’s preferred language of English, Spanish, or Haitian Creole.
The reality is that NICU families have to balance caring for a NICU baby, caring for other family members, navigating life, and working, which is complicated enough. The NEST Video Series, by ICU baby, will allow families to access the information they need, when they need it, to feel more confident in discussing and engaging in their baby’s care. Information is power and the NEST by ICU baby puts that power back in the hands of NICU parents.
