Improving Black Health Inequities

The Health Foundation of South Florida gathered community leaders for a summit dedicated to advancing the health and wellness of black individuals and families in South Florida. The Black Health Summit was held at Florida Memorial University and featured author Daniel E. Dawes discussing his book The Political Determinants of Health: Hope for a Brave and Better Future.

Attendees engaged in discussions on “Big P” Policy and health equity in Florida and participated in a fireside chat with Alonzo Mourning, exploring themes of faith, hope, love, and resilience. The summit illuminated health inequities in the community and inspired attendees to take personal, professional, and civic actions to drive positive change. ICU baby’s presence gave a voice to NICU families and their experiences in South Florida. We will continue to work with other organizations to ensure a better NICU experience for all families.
